Hi listers-
After several more questions about the Cork library queries, I thought I'd
mention some sources for Irish records.
Do you know about the Rosemary Ffolliott abstracts for newspapers of Cork and
Kerry? You can get this at the LDS libraries, (although I didn't realize this
and wrote to Ireland directly for my families' pages) Most of these notices
are for the major cities and for more prosperous people, but you might get
lucky. she has indexed marriage notices, death notices and advertisements. You
can then go back to the original papers for the details.
Grenham's book on Irish research lists family history articles for each
county. there is a newer book on Irish research just out (I believe the author
is Ryan) which has even more articles listed. If you get lucky here you can
again write to the library for a copy of the article.
The Journal of Cork Historical and Archeological Society has been publishing
since the late 1800s. Many family histories. I don't know if there is an index
for this journal. I found several copies at some Universities in the U.S. but
for a particular article I write to Cork county Library on Farranlea Rd. I am
planning to write to the Society myself, I will let you know if they have an
all-inclusive index.
your best bets for library research would be to write to the branch libraries
in the town your family comes from.
Good luck
- Amy
