I have spent many years researching the records on the island of
Jamaica, West Indies. Main goal: to trace my ancestor before his
arrival on the island.

Thomas Elliott, Esq. was a landowner in Jamaica in the late 1700's,
early 1800's. His wife's name was Sarah Euston. His brother, David
Elliott, a cooper, of Cork C., lived in Aberdeen, Scotland with his wife
Sarah Crowe. I believe both brothers were involved in shipping.

So where do I start? Do the records go back to the latter part of the
1700's? Are there records specifically for merchants and shipping? Any
helpful hints would be appreciated.

Thanks
