The townland is probably a commonage shared by all of the people
listed and used either for sheep-grazing or for turf-cutting. This
is still common in areas of poor land, usually bog or mountain land.
An indication of this is whether there are any houses on the
property. If there are not, you will usually find that the same
names are listed in this or neighbouring townlands within holdings
which do have a house. The latter is where they lived and the other
is part of their farm-holding. You may not always find the name with
a house as sons, brothers, etc could have a share in a common grazing
while not being listed as a householder.
