Dear Mary:
I have a lap top computer also and there are advantages. I have all my
data stored on it that I can carry with me. Mine is also battery powered so
that if you get someone a little sticky about you plugging into their
electricity you can still use it. If you go to a family members house you
can type in all their info right then from them. I currently use Family
Tree Maker and the family sems to get real excited when they see how much
work you have done on the others! I am also hooked up to the internet and
can go to most large places and use a local number through AT&T to access my
family at the homefront and or e-mail.
The disadvantages: you need electricity, it big & bulky, and you still
have to transfer the info over to your main CPU.(but there are things you
can get to do this easier too.) The real disadvantage is that you sometimes
want a hard copy of the screen info but unless you can hook up to a printer
then you are stuck! You also must keep a close eye out for your equipment
in the library's so that someone doesn't come along and just snatch it up!
