I couldn't let this talk of deeds go past without making comment, I have
been through a number of deeds over the past year and agree absolutely that
they contain a wealth of genealogical information.

But there is a problem (there must be or everyone would be doing this).
Deeds are always about property, even the marriage settlements, they are
written by lawyers, for lawyers, and contain masses of legal terms and
tricks. The only advice I will give is this: get a good book on the subject
and read it first, transcribe your deed, then go through it again and again,
word by word with your law book in one hand, the deed in the other !

I have used Mark D. Herber, Ancestral Trails, The Complete Guide to British
Genealogy and Family History. This has a very good section on British law
but is not so good on the differences that applied in Ireland after the land
acts.
