Subject: [Cork] [Admin] Virus yet again

The BadTrans virus (where you get your own post back from an infected
person with a note saying "take a look to the attachment" which is what
contains the virus) is once again making its rounds on genealogy lists.

Currently, it seems to be mostly affected my CountyCork list from a
person but SHAMROCK had one too not long ago. This
time it seems mostly the addresses spreading it are from Australia
(sorry my Australian friends), so maybe it's going around on the systems
there, and then since you're on genealogy lists it's spreading that way.
All I know is the last 4 infected people on my lists have had addresses
ending in .au

What can you do? First, have a good antivirus program installed.
Secondly NEVER OPEN ANY ATTACHMENT YOU HAVE NOT SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR.

If you get the virus you need to get rid of it. I unsub people from the
list as soon as I find out about an infection, and then the person can
resub as soon as they are clean. So far, that has worked really well and
kept the problem on my lists down to a miniumum.

Please let's not discuss this on the lists, this email is just a "heads
up".
