I am fairly new to genealogy so please bare with me.

My grandfather was Patrick James McCarthy, born 1887 in Columbia County, New York State, USA. His parents were James E McCarthy and Jane (Jennie) A Higgins also born in New York State, USA.

Jane's (Jennie's) parents were Patrick Higgins and Kate Hughes. Birthplace Ireland.

Jame's parents were Patrick McCarthy and Catherine Horan. Birthplace also Ireland.

Now my question, how do I find where in Ireland my gggrandparents were born? All the paperwork I have just say Ireland as place of birth.

Where do I go from here? Everyone who could answer these questions are deceased. At an early age, I might add.

Mother - Jane Mary (McCarthy) Hoffman - d age 51
Ggrandfather - Patrick James McCarthy - d age 32
Gggrandmother - Jane A (Higgins) McCarthy - d age 46
Gggrandfather - James McCarthy - d age 37

Any help would be greatly appreciated
