Subject: [Cork] Sir Richard Cox of Dunmanway
Date: Sat, 12 Jul 2003 18:36:09 EDT
I am interested in hearing from anyone researching the descendants of Sir
Richard Cox of Dunmanway, County Cork. Sir Richard was Chancellor of Ireland in
1703-1707, and was created a baronet by Queen Anne in 1706.
Sir Richard Cox was born March 1649/50, and died May 3, 1733. He married
Mary Bourne. They are known to have had five children, Richard Cox, d. 1725,
George Cox, d. 1735, Michael Cox, m. Anne O'Brien, Mary Cox, m. Nicholas
Skofield, and Amy Cox, m. William Mansell. Documentation is less certain about as
many as fourteen others, ten of whom appear to have died in childhood, descent
being uncertain for the others.
Richard Cox who died in 1725 married Mary Pomeroy. Their only known child is
Richard Cox, b. November 23, 1702; d. 1766. This Richard Cox married
Catherine Evans 1725. They are believed to have had seven children: Richard Cox, b.
November 4, 1735; d. December 25, 1760; m. Eliza Turner Becker, Mary Cox, b.
Abt 1737; d. April 1764; m. Joshua Hamilton, 1750, Michael Cox, d. 1772; m.
??? Arthur, Susanna Cox, m. Dan O'Callaghan, George Evans Cox, Katherine Cox,
Eliza Cox, m. John Newman.
I am descended further from Mary Cox and Joshua Hamilton, through their son,
Henry Hamilton-Cox, who emigrated from Cork to York Co., PA, about 1796.
