Wendy,

I can't help with the population in the 1800's but, as of 30 years ago, there
were about 8 buildings in the townland of Leitrim (however, if your Leitrim
reference is to the civil parish of Leitrim......then there's a lot more
counting of little dots for me to do <gr>).

There was a Leitrim parish church in the next townland to the east and
southeast, Ballynalacken, but it was abandoned in 1694 and is now a ruin. I believe
the nearest RC church in the mid 1800's (and now, probably) was in Kilworth,
a couple of miles to the WNW of Leitrim townland, and in Kilworth civil
parish. Fermoy, of course, is about four miles to the WSW, and also had/has an RC
church. But I would go for Kilworth, myself, as a first choice.
