Peggy,
The townland of Shanagh is in Fanlobbus civil parish, and located about 4
miles NE of Dunmanway town. The townland is shaped like a 'fattened' equilateral
triangle - sort of like Uruguay - and lies along the western side of the
River Blackwater. In fact, Shanagh has more than a mile of frontage on the river.
The southern boundary and a portion of the northern border of the townland
coincide with small tributaries of the river. The townland, of course, slopes
down to the rivers/streams and rises about 200 feet in the center of the
townland. There are two minor roads which cross in the center of the townland
(called Shanagh Cross Roads....surprise !!) and, as of 30 years ago, there were 12
or 13 buildings in the townland, mostly spread along these two roads. The
nearest villages/towns (having a postoffice or a church or school, or such) are
Castletown (church and P.O.) 3 miles east, Cappeen (school, maybe a P.O.) 2
1/2 miles NNE, Shanlaragh (P.O.) 2 miles NW and Ballynacarriga (church) 3 1/2
miles due south.

All I can suggest is to enter Shanagh Cork into google or dogpile, and
see what you can find <gr>.
