Kia Ora Michael and List members,
Thankyou Michael for your response, however I have a copy of my great grandmother's marriage certificate dated 18th Oct, 1862 and she definately gives her name as Mary CORKER, born County Cork, Ireland, and her father's name as James CORKER, Captain in the Army. I am not sure when she arrived into Australia, where she was married in Melbourne, but family notes from previous generations (now deceased) indicate that she is a descendant of Archdeacon Chambre CORKER, who appears to have been a Chaplain to Militia & Volunteers Co.Cork 1778 and married to Elizabeth Browne, daughter of Bishop Jemmett Browne- three of their daughters also married clergymen, and it would also seem that one branch of the family changed their name to CORCOR. I believe I am trying to make the right connection as my great grandmother Mary and her husband (Michael McMahon from County Clare), named one of their sons Chambre. I have copies of some of the pages of the book "Clerical & Parochial Records. Cor!
k, Cloyne, and Ross, by W.Maziere Brady, D.D., and also some pages from "The Pooles of Maysfield" which both give details of THE CORKERS- the later indicates that Thomas (CORKER) of Dublin, bapt.2/12/1638, d. 19/3/1716. M.L.d. 28/2/1662. Abigail, dau. of Robert Chambre, of Dublin, vivens 1725, and the name Chambre as a christian name, was continued down through the generations since then. Would appreciate help with the deciphering however, can you help with what M.L.d means, and also vivens 1725. Many thanks, do enjoy getting the messages from the list, even though I do not have much to offer anyone. It is not easy to trace hertiage from Ireland, via Australia, while living in the far north of New Zealand. Regards Joan Cook (New Zealand).
