Subject: [Cork] New to list- researching the Gildernew family
Date: Mon, 22 Mar 2004 11:35:09 -0500
I am new to this group and wanted to post the family I am
researching. I am a decendant of Felix (Phelix) Gildernew who
left Ireland around 1850 and settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
with his family. Felix was my great-great-great grandfather.
My grandfather always told me his family was from County Cork.
However, the Census records I have uncovered list the birth
place of Felix's children as County Tyrone. I am wondering if
Felix was born in County Cork and then moved to County Tryone
when he married.
I have no information on my family except what I have obtained
in the United States. I only began my research about 5 months
ago, so I am new at this and appreciate any advice on where to
search and how to approach my search. I am hoping to find out
what parish they were from so as to obtain christening, marriage
and other records related to the family.
The family is as follows:
Felix Gildernew
Sarah (maiden name unknown) wife
Children:
Arthur Gildernew (born in County Tyrone 1838)
James Gildernew (born in County Tyrone 1841)
Felix Gildernew (born in County Tyrone 1846)
Edward Gildernew (born in County Tyrone 1849)
Daniel Gildernew (born in Pittsburgh, PA 1858)
Thank you in advance for any help or guidance you can provide.
Sincerely,
Jeff Davis
