I, too, am not directly researching CROWLEY; however, the name popped up in researching my maternal HURLEY and SHEA lines in Washington, D.C. And, those lines connect to DONEGAN. I have found records on a Mary (maiden name unknown) DONEGAN who died in 1885 in D.C. According to a newspaper death announcement, Mary was born in Drinagh Parish, Co. Cork in 1799. She married a DONEGAN. Drinagh is not too far from Skibbereen in west Co. Cork.
An Ellen Marie HURLEY appeared in my grandmother's funeral book and I had recalled the name from when I was little. Believing her to be a relative, I ordered her SS-5 to get her parents. Here is a transcription:
"Full name you use in work or business: Ella Marie HURLEY
Full name given you at birth: Ellen Marie CROWLEY
Date of Birth: Oct. 23, 1890
Place of Birth: Wash., D. C.
Age on last birthday: 71
Sex: Female
Mother's full name at her birth: Johanna SHEA
Father's full name: Patrick J. CROWLEY
She didn't fill in "Today's Date."
Her address is shown as:
Ella M. Hurley
4208 Yuma st., N.W.
Washington 16 D. C."

==========
I found John "Dunnigan" on the 1880 census for Staten Island. He is listed as a blacksmith apprentice, b. in Washington, D.C. This meshes with family oral history that states John went to NY to learn blacksmithing and then met and married Mary HURLEY. They are to have had 2 children in NY, Stephen who 'died young' (and is supposed to be buried on Staten Island) and Jane "Jennie" Cecile. John then returned to D.C. with his little family, establishing his own blacksmith business near St. Dominic's Catholic Church in SW D.C. Interestingly, I also found a Mary Hurley as a domestic in a household not too far from John. According to a couple of census citations, she immigrated in 1875 at age 17. The Mary Hurley on S.I. is age 21 in 1880...and both of these homes would be in the parish of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church.
I went to Staten Island, NY, on March 12 as a sidetrip from a whirlwind visit to NYC. I took the ferry over (free and great photos of Lady Liberty!!) I then took a bus to St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic church where I know one child of John Dominic DONEGAN and Mary Ellen HURLEY was baptized and where I suspect they may have married. It was pretty special. The church was built in 1883. My great-grandaunt, Jane Cecile DONEGAN, was baptized there Oct. 18, 1885. I lit some candles and sat awhile. A caretaker came in and talked a little of the church history he knew (he was very nice and he had been going to this church all of his life). I hated to leave. I spoke briefly with a woman at the office and she said that they won't just look up records and I would have to write (I had written once, received no reply, followed up and was told they found nothing). I have just written to the municipal archives to see what can be found.
Any ideas?

Hi Jack,
I am not specifically researching the Keatings; however, I am interested in
the Keating name as a connection to my Irish grandmother. Maybe we have a
connection. I'm trying to do this from memory, so I hope I don't give you
any false information.
My great grandmother was Mary Barnett (nee Donovan). She was from
Rosscarbery (possibly Skibbereen) in County Cork. Mary had four children:
Minnie Agnes, Margaret A (probably Agnes), Nora Agnes and John.
The family emigrated to United States around the turn of the century 1900.
Minnie had been living in Boston, but passed away in 1896. My grandmother,
Nora Barnett, married Clifford Cook and they lived in Danvers, MA. My Dad
and his sisters recall visiting a Keating family in Boston. I think it was
Cornelius and they called her Aunt Minnie. I have a photo of two of my
aunts standing with Dorothy Keating and a male--not sure who he is. I
believe the family lived on Brookline Street or Beacon Street. I have the
actual address somewhere and hope to try to find the place on my next trip
to Boston.
Is this the family you are researching?
