Hello,

Looking for any leads on a Mary Clifford (maiden name), born 1837. Family story is that she left Cork City around 1850-1853, ended up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, in copper mining area. Another family record in an old Bible says she came from County Cork.

However, I know many people mistakenly believe their relatives came from County Cork because they possibly left Ireland through the port of Cork City, when in reality they really came from a different Irish county. But since I have found no leads whatsoever for the last 3 years, I thought I'd just put this information out there to see if anyone has a lead or some ideas, especially since the predominant county with the surname of Clifford is County Cork.

I know of no parent or sibling names, I have checked all the standard sources and vital records, etc. (Just wanted to let people know that I am not one of these people asking for help without having done my homework.)

The only lead I have traces to County Kerry (Dingle), rather than County Cork, which is a weak lead at best. However, since these 2 counties are adjacent, I'll give that lead info, too.....one never knows if people moved between counties. The lead is that Mary Clifford may have had 2 brothers named John and Thomas - all 3 having left Ireland in 1852, spending a minimal amount of time in Grand Rapids Michigan, before moving to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in the iron mines district near Marquette.

Thanks to all who may have any info or suggestions!
