Thanks Dennis - I understand the distinction between the orphans and other
ordinary passengers.
So that means that if one was wanting to emigrate they went to an English
port and just found a ship with vacancies as it were? or did they book from
Ireland and then got themselves to the port at the right time. I'm thinking
that this method would be cumbersome without the sort of communication we
have now.
If ships were leaving from Ireland then local booking would be available I
suppose. Or would they be only ships that were arranged by emigration
agents etc.
