Subject: Why use the Link Activity report?

Hi all -
A few subscribers have asked how to utilize the Link Activity report which
you each receive from the CyndisList mailing list. The Link Activity report
was originally created to answer some of the questions I am often asked,
such as "How can I tell when you update a page?" and "How can I tell how
many new links have been added to a page?" etc.
The Link Activity report is intended to show subscribers where update
activity has occurred on the Cyndi's List web site. For example, if you
have genealogical research interests in Alberta, Canada you can scan the
Link Activity report each day (scroll to browse, or use an "Edit, Find") to
see if there was any activity on the page for Alberta. See the following
example on the Link Activity report:
Category Summary ( Cyndi's List - Canada - Alberta
* New Links:29
* Updated Links:23
* Removed Links:5
* Total Links:134
These numbers tell you that you should visit Cyndi's web page for Alberta
to see what is new and what has been updated. Most e-mail programs will let
you click on the above URL to immediately load the page in your web
browser. When viewing the Alberta page, spot the "New" and "Updated"
graphics to find the new and changed links. The Link Activity report shows
every category on Cyndi's List which was has been changed within the
previous 24 hours.
The Link Activity report thus provides you with a near-daily summary of
where the new and updated links are on the Cyndi's List web site by
individual category page. I hope you find this research tool useful in
efficiently allocating your research time on the Internet.
P.S. And no, I'm sorry, but you can't subscribe to the CyndisList mailing
list and *not* receive the activity report. I have two automated,
computer-generated reports that go the mailing list each day: link activity
and what's new links. In addition, I send out personal notes and forward
notes that I think may interest the readers. I have only one mailing list
for all things related to Cyndi's List and genealogy. Maintaining one
mailing list is more than enough work for me and for my husband, Mark.
