To me JOHNSON is Swedish or English. Fox is English, however there are many
Irish with the name. It was foisted on them by the Brits. Fox = Sionnach.
Related was Tadhg O'Catharnaigh which gave us Carney & Kearney.

Have you checked the Philadelphia censuses? They should give his country of
birth.
