Ged files are ones with the extension .ged These are files that comply with
the

GEnealogical Data COMmunications protocol, or GEDCOM.

It is a method of exchanging genealogical data between different
genealogical software. In most of them there is a way to import and export
GEDCOMs. My own preference is for a program called RootsMagic. On my
program I click on File, then Import GEDCOM and Export GEDCOM are in the
drop down menu. I do not know where you are located, but if you are
interested you can go to http://www.rootsmagic.com/
and download a free demo. There are many other programs out there, and in
countries other than the US they have their own programs. If you don't have
any genealogical software on your computer, I would strongly advise getting
some sort of program to aid you in keeping track of the family history
materials you are gathering.

> Can anyone tell me what these "ged" files are that I keep seeing
everywhere? I try to download them and open them, and it doesn't work. They
wont open! Now I saw a website that said you need genealogical software to
open one? What does that mean? and where do I get it? med venlig hilsen
Sue.
