Hello Andrew,
Actually the name Kirke is a Danish name meaning Church, Parish,
Churchyard. Their are many Danish names in Great Britain, due to the fact that
the Danish vikings settled in Great Britain.
So there is a very good chance that your male line does originate in
Denmark.
Also, many other groups of people invaded and settled in Great
Britain, including the Normans, Angles and Saxons who were Germanic tribes who
originated from the Schleswig-Holstein area of Denmark/Germany.
