DAVID E. DAYTON born 1825, Suffolk County, LI, NY
died at battle at Cedar Creek, VA, 1864
Married MARY ALDRICH FANNING (Polly), daughter of Abraham Fanning and Martha Hallock Luce born 1823 in Mattituck, Suffolk, LI, NY.

Children: Martha J. b 1853; Lila J. b 1857; Elbert E. b 1859 (died as infant); Elberta H. b.1860; DAVID BENJAMIN b. 1863.

Martha J. shown disabled by scarlet fever in 1870 census never married, still living with sister Elberta in 1920.

Lila J. may have died as child.
Elbert E. died as infant or child.

Elberta H. married Daniel T. Hulse, they can be found in each census up to 1920, in 1930 Elberta is widowed.

DAVID BENJAMIN DAYTON married Adelaide Estelle Wood on November 10, 1884 in Mattituck. Marriage performed by Rev J. T. Hamlin, Emily Wood (mother) and Patience (Mrs.) Hamlin witnessed. DAVID died 1892 in Suffolk, LI, NY.

Martha H. Fanning, mother-in-law can be found living with or next to DAVID and Polly in the census from 1860 through 1870. Polly is descendant of Captain James Fanning and Hanna Smith and of Sarah Wines and Eleazer Luce.

ADELAIDE Wood Dayton remarried to Joseph H. Southard b. 1895, she and children (found as stepchildren) can be found with him in 1900 census
She was the daughter of George S. Wood (father Joel Wood) b. 1836 and Emily A. Worth (dau. of John Worth) b. 1838......

Emily is a descendant of William Worth and Sarah Macy of Nantucket, MA. Had sisters Nancy W.; Charlotte; Mary.and Alice H. Her mother was either John's first wife Mary H. Worth or Nancy Havens Lester Worth.

Alice H. married Manuel Boutcher

George S. Wood was the son of Joel Wood (father unkown) b. 1807 and Esther Howell b. 1812.

Esther Howell was the daughter of David Howell and Joanna Wells. Joanna Wells b. 1779, the daughter of Obadiah Wells and Joanna (Johannah) Downs.

Lydia Clark, found repeatedly living with or near George and Emily Wood, born about 1800, looking for information on her relationship.

David Howell born 1773, died 1852 was the son of Israel Howell and Tabitha Hulse and a descendant of William Howell born about 1519 in Buckinghamshire, England.
