Subject: [DeCamp] DeCamp brick walls - #4: Joel DeCamp of PA, OH, and IL

This is one of several postings that I will make about the "brick walls" that
I have run into. These are DeCamp families that I have been unable to
connect to the known descent from Laurens Jansen DeCamp.
Joel DeCamp was born in 1797 in PA. The first records of him are in the
court records of Preble Co., OH, in 1829 for a designation as guardian for
two minors - Gavin and Melissa Jane. He appears to have been married twice,
once to Pemetia ???, and a second time to Matilda Bridge, the latter mariage
in OH. Later records of land purchases, births, etc., place him in Schuyler,
McDonough, and Fulton Counties in Illinois in 1831 and later.
It must be considered possible that Pemetia was not Joel's wife, but a
sister, sister-in-law, or other relative. It is unclear why Joel was
designated as guardian for the children; if he was their natural father, it
seems unlikely that this would have been necessary.
