Happy New Year!

I don't know if this is "old news" or not, but re your note about this
family moving to Sac Co., IA by the late 1860's:

They do not show up in the published 1860 federal census schedule for Sac
Co., IA.

In 1870 there is one DeCamp family in Sac Co., IA (the published index does
not give ages, relationships, etc., only names). The household contains Ann
P., Cordelia, Elizabeth, Gideon, James M., Joseph, Joseph H., Maggie E.,
May, Sarah and Susie.

In 1880 the family is at Wall Lake, Sac Co., Iowa, p. 197D

I own several cemetery enumerations for Sac Co., IA. In Oakland Cem.,
Jackson Twp., Sac Co., IA I found: Lydia DeCamp, Effa DeCamp and James
Decamp, in Lot 57. None of their graves has a marker according to the
enumeration. The other people buried in this lot are David O. Culver, Eliza
Culver, and George W. Culver.

Hope this is of some help,

Cyndi Sweet

Subject: [DeCamp] DeCamp brick walls - #7: Gideon DeCamp of PA

This is one of several postings that I will make about the "brick walls"
that
I have run into. These are DeCamp families that I have been unable to
connect to the known descent from Laurens Jansen DeCamp.

Gideon DeCamp was born in 1814 in PA. He married Elizabeth Dougal, who
seems
to have been about 15 years younger then him. He had a total of five
children, with a gap of ten years between the second and third, suggesting a
second marriage. Descent from three of the children is known through as
much
as six generations. The family appears to have located first in Erie Co.,
PA, then moving to Sac Co., IA, by the late 1860's.

We have little information on this unconnected line, other than that
provided
by Carl Fredericks of Knoxville, TN. While it may be that this line will
prove to be from one of the Washington Co. families, it must be noted that
Gideon as a given name was not common among the descendants of Arendt
DeCamp,
from which three brothers migrated West to Washington Co., PA, about 1790.

Carl was a former member of this list, and I have lost touch with him. If
anyone can help locate him, please let me know.

Wilson DeCamp
Vienna, VA
