I am trying to locate some land belonging to an ancestor of mine. The
property description notes that this ancestor's property was a part of the
original survey for Lord Fairfax. I also found some information that Lord
Fairfax's survey was "proprietary."

I am new to land research of this type and have not a clue where to begin
(i.e., how to find Lord Fairfax's survey) and what the term "proprietary"
means. So help from any kind soul there would be appreciated.

I haven't yet purchased Deed Mapper but plan to do so and wanted to do some
preliminary "leg work" before I got down to the nuts and bolts of using the
program.
