Jim,
Glad for the reminder for me to post back to the DEED-USERS-GROUP about
next week's workshop. In real life Michael John Neill is a mathematics
instructor at Carl Sandburg College (a two-year community college) in
Galesburg, Illinois. He is developing a mid-west to national reputation as
a genealogy and technology speaker. During his college's spring break, he
conducts genealogy programs/classes at the college sometimes in March of
every year. He has his own web page, root dig something. You can find it
by doing a web search under his name. It gives his list of topics and more
about him and his own genealogy research.
So far as the DEEDMAPPER workshop and the genealogy conference are
concerned, the DEEDMAPPER class may have one or two seats left in it. If
your are interested call the college first thing Monday morning. As of
Wednesday the 16th there were 18 registered with two seats left. I had one
e-mail this morning from an interested party. Not sure if anyone else had
registered on Thursday for these seats are not.
Lunch is included in the price. Not sure what will be for lunch yet, but
the college food service manager assures me that it will be something from
the college food service line and not just a salad sandwich and a bag of
chips. Think he mentioned maybe catfish. He can also fix a veggies plate,
etc for those on a special diet or if you don't eat meat. But we need to
know ahead of time, at least early that morning for any special requests.
There are plenty of seats left for the regular conference where Mr. Neill
will be giving four additional sessions, Immigrants from Europe to the
Midwest, WAR I and II Draft Records, and two on internet site use, the last
one including all kinds of maps on and off line. We had 40 registered on
Wednesday for the regular conference. Hopefully we will be getting more
people this next week. It is a more than excellent conference for the price
even if I did organize it myself along with another adjunct instructor at
the college.
College food service manager has promised some really excellent food this
year, not the usual box lunch with soggy sandwich, chips, etc. type lunch
that you get at a lot of conferences/seminars. Friday night will be extra
nice with buffet and real cloth napkins and tablecloths in red, white and
blue. Really a bargin for the regular conference of $120.00 and the
computer software workshop of $55.00.
If anyone is interested I can e-mail you a registration form in MSWORD.
Would also like to have more information on the POWELL DNA Group mention in
Jim's signature line. I am interested a William Powell and his wife, Amey
_?_ you have a child death recorded in the St. Paul's Parish Register of
Stafford County, Virginia, c. 1715. My Powell line daughters out when their
daughter married Anthony Buckner Thomas as recorded in the same published
register in 1755. The son-in-law dies as Anthony Buckner in Halifax County,
Virginia, with a will in 1780 where he leaves his daughter Winney Edmunds a
number of pounds of goose feathers. Winney Buckner had married John
Edmunds/Edmonds/Edmons before 1776 when my ancestor, James, was born. The
whole tribe of Edmonds, from Francis Edmunds and his wife, Rachel_?_, had
all migrated to Wilkes County, Georgia, c. 1786.
The LDS information on this William Powell and Amy _?_ has to be wrong or
else William was a bigamist with a wife and family in two states at the same
time.

In order to keep having this conference we need all the help we can get
getting out the publicity so that we have a good turnout. College
budget
has been cut like a lot of other places. This is the only public
college
west of the Mississippi currently sponsoring a genealogy conference with
outside speakers. Please pass the word along to all of your genealogy
friends whom you think might want to attend. At the door parking. All
airconditioned buildings and handicapped accessible and minimum walking.
