Subject: [DMU] SC survey orientation

A helpful book on this subject is Pett-Conklin, Linda Marie, Cadastral
Suveying in Colonial South Carolina: A Historical Georgraphy. Louisiana
State University, PHD 1986. Ann Arbor, MI: University Microfilms
International, c 1987.
I obtained a copy through interlibrary loan. There is a discussion of
compass orientations on plats. She says there were no official policies
in SC - so the surveyor had great control. There is a section on compass
orientations used by the surveyors. She says that in the earliest
settlement, land was laid out within the spatial framework of the
counties and afterward, the townships.
