Steve Broyles, president of Direct line Software and developer of Deedmapper, will present a 2-hour workshop at the NGS Conference in Sacramento, California, May 19-22, 2004. Learn the basic skills needed for a mapping project using Deedmapper in this hands-on, computer lab where you can see it, do it, learn it.
Land platting is a skill you can use at many levels. Mary McCampbell Bell and Birdie Monk Holsclaw will teach a 4-hour land platting workshop where you can learn to plat your ancestors' lands and then place them on modern maps.
Do maps lie? Attend a luncheon and hear Melinda Kashuba's presentation on the savvy genealogist's guide to evaluating maps as sources for research.
The NGS Conference also offers sessions on using mapping software to track migration, thinking "geo-logically" with topographical maps, obtaining federal land case files, maximizing use of county land records, reconstructing neighborhoods, and finding land records in the courthouse and on the Internet.
