I have just had a chance to poke around the USGS and Terraserver this
morning, and I wanted to share with you what I found.

Using the USGS Geographic Names Information Service at
http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form

and searching for any stream in Virginia with the name of Evans, I found
the two streams you mentioned earlier. But I also used the "query variant
names" option, and came across this one:

Mill Swamp VA Essex stream 374946N 0764532W Dunnsville

When I clicked on it, I found this:

Feature Name: Mill Swamp
Feature Type: stream
State: Virginia
County: Essex
Variant Name(s) ***Evans Mill Swamp***
***Evans Swamp***
USGS 7.5' x 7.5' Map: Dunnsville
374946N
0764532W

So I followed the links to the Terraserver USGS maps, did some moving
around, and found that Mill Swamp empties into the Nottoway River, on the
west (which is also the south at times) bank. Here's the link to the 4m
resolution topographic map showing Mill Creek and Mill Creek Landing where
it empties into the Nottoway.

http://terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?t=2&s=12&x=404&y=5062&z=18&w=2

By zooming out, you can see the surrounding area and see if it matches the
area you're looking for.

Hope this helps....

Peace,
Part of the Tree,
Greg
