I had the same problem; I downloaded the free trial at WinZip and then, after a large amount of trial and error, somehow got the file downloaded. Now my trial version has expired, so I guess I would have to buy the real thing next time I want to get files.

It seems to me that in the past I was able to open and read the files just by clicking on the County.gz link. Now it immediately wants me to download the file.

An unrelated question to the group; can anyone help me interpret this:

.and five hundred fifty Acres the residue East upon the upper pond
adjoining to his former Patent South upon Cravens Land North upon the
Merchants Land and South West into the maine Woods Whereof the breadth of
two hundred and fifty acres extends a mile from the pond West and at ye
breadth of three hundred Acres South West into the woods...

or an abstract that reads:

400 a. ... W. by S. into the woods toward the head of Merchants Hope Creek, E. by N. upon same, N. by W. on a tract of land called Merchants Hope, S. by E. on land of Sergeant Richard Tisdell.

Both from 17th century Charles City Co., VA.

Subject: [DMU] New to List..need help

Hi List,

I'm new to the list. I'm really needing help with being able to open the downloaded GZ files from the Deed Data Pool. I've tried every variation I can think of and nothing works.

I've tried to change file extension to the MBL extension but it doesn't open in the mapping program either.

Thank you for any help.
