Mark, many thanks for your thoughts and ideas about the layers. I do
appreciate your help.

I purchased the software 3 weeks ago so I am also a new user :-)

The instructions are all on line, meaning you can either install the video
tutorials on your hard drive or access on the internet. There's not any
written instruction. The video tutorials move at an easy pace and if you
keep the program open while the video is going you can follow along easily.
The videos are well done.

You don't need any layers to use the program unless you are specifically
trying to make the deed fit a particular place in a particular county. In
other words you can "see" the results of the plot in the graphic view
without any layers. However, by using the roads and streams layer the plot
can be moved to (hopefully) coincide to the body of water (river, creek,
stream, etc.) that may be mentioned in the deed.

The railroad and public land layers would be useful only if you know the
deeds you will plot contain railroad lines or are adjacent to public lands.

As has been mentioned, if you can obtain actual google earth photo images or
other map data at the correct scale you might not need any layers at all.
But, to get familiar with using the software I would suggest getting the
roads and stream layer. In my particular case, the deeds were on the
eastern edge of Pendleton County, Ky and possibly extended into Bracken
County Ky, so I purchased the roads and streams for both counties. The
software maker was extremely helpful to insure I got the right county
information.

Hi! I am planning on purchasing the software and hope that the instruction
booklet is EASY to follow. Would someone be so kind as to suggest which
map layers I should purchase in the beginning [which are most helpful, in
general]?
Streams, Road, Rail, or Pub. Land? I am assuming that these are current
streams, road, etc.?? Thank you very much.
