You have several choices regarding background maps. One, you can have
us make up custom maps for you as described at the web site. They'd
show the roads, streams, and section lines for your research area in Napa.
You put the map files we send you into the folder with your deed file for Napa
and everything works automatically. Two, if your research area is within a
single USGS topo map you can probably download that map for free from
libremap.org or the USGS and use that. And three, if you have your own paper
map you can scan it and use it. For these last two methods you to inform
the DeedMapper of the map scale and scanning density (dots per inch) of the
graphic image. This is easily done.

I'm afraid there's no trial version of the software.
