Subject: [DENEWCAS] Is there a historical society?

Can someone on this list give me a few suggestions on where to write in New Castle County for genealogy info? I am searching for information about the father of Jacob Streeter FOUNTAIN, Thomas FOUNTAIN, a native of England. He died in New Castle County, Del., in the autumn of 1829, at the age of forty-five years. Thomas's wife was Christiana (STREETS/STREETER) FOUNTAIN, who was born in New Castle County, Del.. She died there in the fall of 1827. Thomas and Christiana were the
parents of nine children, five sons and four daughters, of whom Jacob S., was the fourth child. His mother was a member of the Christian Church." Source: 1891 Harrison County Iowa History, page 884-886.
If this family had 5 children younger than Jacob and he was young when he lost his parents (as stated in his bio) some of the children must have gone to relatives or been adopted. Where can I go for information of this type?
Thanks,
Barb
