Does anyone else have a copy of this will? Have you had any success in
deciphering the words I have had to leave out due to being unable to read
them? Can anyone clarify the last name of the last witness (John
CONWAY/BONNY)? Who was John REES' wife, what was her name? her maiden name?

Probate of Baldwin JOHNSON's will ... .. heath, John REES .. .. Executors ..
In the name of God ... I Baldwin JOHNSON of Apoquiniminck hundred in the
County of New Castle upon Delaware .. and being of indifferent good health
in body and of Sound .. mind and .. memory know the Uncertainty of this
life do make this my last will and testament in manners and form following,
that is to say first and principally I commend my Soul to the Almighty God
............................ the merits of ... .. Saviour and Redeemer, the
have .... of all .. .. .. and my body to be buried in Such .. .. manner (if
possible in Apoquiniminck Church by my Wife) .. to my Executors hereafter
shall think meet and convenient .. and touching my .. estate, I give,
bequeath and ... of the same as followeth vis
... I will and order that all my just debts and any funeral expenses be
first fully paind and discharged by my Executors hereafter named.
ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my Mother In Law Ann EYRE, the Sum of Twenty
pounds lawful .. money of .. .. plantations, one .. Moiyety thereof to be
paid to her within one year after my decease and the other .. Moiety within
Two Years after my Decease or .. the Value thereof in Such of my Goods and
Chattels as she shall .. to be paid and delivered her with convenient time
after my Decease.
ITEM. I give unto my Daughter Mary all my Wife's wearing apparell and all
her God Rings.
ITEM. I give full power unto my Executors to bargain, sell, convey, devise,
set and to Farm, lett or otherwise dispose of all my Lands tenements and
hereditements both in this county of New Castle and also in Antigua or
elsewhere .. .. as .. shall deem meet and convenient and all such sums .. of
.. money as shall arise from the sale or other disposal thereof to by them
paid and laid out for my Children in Manner and Time as hereafter mentioned.
ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my Daughter, Mary JOHNSON, all the one Moiety
of all such sum & sums of money whatever as shall amount or arise by the
sale of my land, tenements and hereditaments aforementioned if the same be
by my Executors sold and conveyed but if my Executors hereafter named shall
not bargan and sell my aforementioned lands and tenements, and give, devise
unto my said Daughter Mary all the one Moiety of all my land & tenements
afore mentioned. To hold to her her heirs and assigns forever. Upon
condition that my Said Daughter do not intermarry before she shall attain
the Age of Twenty one years without the consdetn of two at least of my
Executors and Trustees hereafter named.
ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my Said Daughter Mary one Moiety of all my
Goods, Chattells and Credit whatsoever and where soever they be to be to her
paid by my Executors as followeth vis the two thirds thereof at the Day of
her Marriage and the .. when she attain the age of Twenty one years.
ITEM. If my Said Daughter shall marry before she attains to the aforesaid
age of twenty one years without the consent of two at least of my Executors
and Trustees hereafter named .. had and obtained then and in that case my
will is and I do give and devise unto my Said Daughter her heris and assigns
only the one third part of my aforesaid estate both real and personal to be
paid and delivered her when she shall attain the age of one and twenty
years. beside her Mother's wearing apparel and gold rings aforesaid which
are to be delivered her at her Marraiage or sooner if my Executors think fit.
ITEM. I give and bequeath and devise unto my son Edward JOHNSON his heirs,
Executors and assigns forever all the rest and residue of my estate both
real and personal both in this country, Antiqua or elsewhere.
ITEM. I give and bequeath unto my Executors hereafter named and to each of
them a Gold Ring.
LASTLY I do nominate, appoint and Ordain my Friends Andrew HAMILTON of
Philadelphia, Esp. and James HEATH of the province of MaryLand gentleman and
Mary his wife, William WILLIAMS of Apoquiniminck .. yeoman, my brother in
law John REES of New Castle Town, my Brother Edward JOHNSON and Richard
OLIVER, Esq. both of Antiqua, Executors and Overseers of this my last will
and testament and guardians of my children during their Minority. IN WITNESS
whereof I have hereuto set my hand and seal, the twenty eighth day of
February Anno Domini One Thousand Seven hundred and Twenty.

BE it remembered that on the twenty sixth day of March in the Year of our
Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and twenty one, John GOLDEN, Peter KING and
John BONNY ??? Witnesses to this will personally appeared before me Rigister
of the County of New Caslte and they being Solemnly Sworn on the holy
Evangelists of Almighty God did depose and say that they were present and
saw Baldwin JOHNSON above ... sign, seal and deliver this to be his last
Will and Testament, that at the time of witnessing he seemed to the best of
their Judgement to have the wanted use of his Reason and Memory, that they
and Mary GOLDEN Subscribed as Witnesses to the Same will. CERTIFIED under my
hand at New Castle the day and year above Said. TESTIFIED John FRENCH.

William WILLIAMS his Renunciation of the Executorship.
TO ALL PEOPLE, to whom these presents shall come William WILLAIMS of
Aprquiniminch in the County of New Castle upon Delaware, Yeoman, sendeth
Greetings WHEREAS Bladwin JOHNSON, late of Apoquinominck .. .. deceased in
and by his last will and testament dated the eight and twentyeth day of
February last .. did nominate, constitute and appoint me the said William
WILLIAMS one of the Executors of the Said last will and testament. NOW KNOW
YE that I the said William WILLIAMS do hereby utterly renounce and
relinquish the said office of Executor of the said last will and testament
and shall not in any wise inter meddle therewith. As witness my hand and
seal the three and twentyeth day of March Anno Domini One thousand, Seven
hundred and Twenty, 1720.
