Larry,
Thank you so much for your kind offer to do some lookups at the Ft.
Wayne library. This is what I need, and I'd very much appreciate any
or all of it:
1810 New Castle Co., DE census or census index: Any references to
Bergen, Burgan, Burgin, etc., with the details about their families
(ages, etc.)
1820 ditto
1830 ditto. Georgeanne from this list found Benjamin BURGAN on page
008 of the AIS census index.
1840 ditto.
This is a big order, I know. I don't have any access to these Delaware
censuses, so anything you can get for me will be an improvement. Keep
track of any copying expenses so I can reimburse you.
Sorry I can't help you with SHARPE in the 1800 census. I only copied
the Burgin listings. BUT--I can definitely help you with the Pulaski
Co., KY Burgan who m. an ELY, the Burgin women who m. BLANKENSHIPs, and
the Ervin Burgin who m. Susannah DAUGHERTY. These go back through Lee
Co., VA to Thomas and Ann ----- Burgin in the northeast part of
Baltimore (now Harford) Co., MD.
I'm writing a book on five early (1600s-1700s) Burgin families around
Chesapeake and Delaware Bays. These include your Harford Co., MD
family, my Kent Co., MD family, and the New Castle Co., DE family, which
was an offshoot from Kent Co., MD. Four out of the five families have
been relatively easy to document, but getting info on the Delaware
family has been like pulling eyeteeth.
Let me know what you already have on your Burgans/Burgins. If you give
me your snail mail address, I'll be glad to send you the chapter(s) I
have on them.
Thanks again! I'll look forward to hearing from you again.
Ramond Burgin
Big Stone Gap, VA (next door to Lee Co.)
