Carol,

I can't say for sure regarding John Scott, but in reading the estate
records of my ancestor Thomas Matthews who died in 1776, New Castle
County, I was surprised at the long list of those who owed him money.
Someone told me this was not unusual in this early time period. I
guess bank loans were not an option so those with extra cash loaned
it, with interest. (interest is mentioned in the Thomas Matthews
record above). I have thought I should list the names, as you did,
for it probably meant they lived nearby.
