There were few Catholics in NCC prior to 1800. Those who were here
would have sought the ministering of the Jesuits of Old Bohemia in Cecil
Co., MD, or St. Joseph's of Philadelphia.

The records of St. Peter's of Wilmington appear just prior to 1800.
After the French Revolution, and the Negro insurrection in St. Domingo,
some distinguished French Catholic families settled in the Wilmington
area.
