The Lamborn Family Bible
(Copied by Mrs. Warren Chandler Lamborn, Newark, Delaware)

Josiah Lamborn, born about 1659, had six children:

Thomas, b. 1689, d. 1761
Robert, b. 1697
Sarah
Maria, b. 1693
John, b. 1702
William, b. 1705

Robert is the founder of the family in America.

Robert Lamborn was born in East Hempstead, Berkshire, England. At the
age of 17 he formed an attachment for a young girl, Sarah Swayne,
daughter of Francis Swayne of Berkshire. Neither of their parents
approved of their getting married as they were both too young. The
Swayne family came to America in 1714. Robert Lamborn did not know to
what part of America they came but was determined to find them. Finally
he got his parents' consent to come, arriving in 1716. He reached
Philadelphia and one day, while standing outside of a store, he was
delighted to see Francis Swayne go into it. He did not speak to him
then but waited until he came out as he was afraid of the reception he
would receive. But Mr. Swayne was very glad to see Robert and insisted
on taking him home. Mr. Swayne had ridden a horse into town from London
Grove, PA. He said they could "ride and hitch". This was a popular way
for two people to travel on one horse. One would ride awhile and then
dismount and hitch the horse and start walking. The other would walk
until he reached the horse, then he would mount and ride awhile--then
hitch and walk. It was Robert's time to walk last and that gave Mr.
Swayne a chance to reach home first and tell his daughter Sarah to go
meet Robert. As they were older now, Mr. Swayne allowed Robert and
Sarah to be married. They were married by the Friends ceremony. Robert
bought land near Darby, PA. They were married near London Grove and he
is buried there.
