Hi Listers! I've been a subscriber now for a while, but haven't posted
anything. I'm about ready to hire a Danish researcher to find my family! I
know that Dahl is a very common name, and it is possible that it was
Americanized!
I have even been to the Danish Emegration site with no luck. This is what I
know...
Iver Dahl- (father)
Mrs. ? Dahl- (Mother)
Nickolena (Lena) Dahl- (daughter) **Married Jesse Martin in 1900 (MI)
Maggie Dahl (daughter)
Anna Dahl (daughter)
Marie Dahl (daughter) *Came to California with sister (married Gust Carlson)

***Nickolena Dahl is my great grandmother, and Iver is my great grandfather.
I have a journal of the family's travels to California in 1921. They had
been living in California for quite some time. Iver Dahl was still there in
the 1920's as he is listed on the Dalton Township census for Muskegon
Michigan. He must have been widowed early on, as on the marraige certificate
I have of his daughters marraige in 1900 it states mother as Unknown. The
census also says that Iver Dahl came over from Denmark in 1882. I have no
idea what part of Denmark he is from. I have very limited information. He
came over with his wife and four daughters, and I have a photograph of them
when they first arrived. I haven't had any luck in finding anything in
Michigan, however there is one directory in Michigan that states Iver Dahl
worked at A.V Mann and Company (a sawmill) in Muskegon. I'm just wondering
if anyone has any ideas? Many of you are all from the same area as I am,
from reading your mails. I subscribe in digest mode. I live in Federal Way,
Washington. Any assistance that anyone can offer, I'd be most greatful. This
sure seems to be a great list! You all seem to get along great, and be
having loads of fun! I am also researching my husband's Danish family. They
are from Vojens and Kolding, Denmark. The last name is not as common, so it
should be easier than "Dahl" to find. Our last name has been Americanized
(by my husbands grandfather, as he was a Barber and was tired of having
people call him Mr. Bruss!)- We now spell our last name just like "Mr.
Springsteen does!- *BRUCE .....however several relatives have now gone back
to spelling it the original spelling of "BRUS". Hope to hear from someone on
the list!
Thanks a bunch!
~Lynne Martin-Bruce (aka: Brus)
