Dear John
As a lifelong resident of Chicago (71 years) and a frequent visitor to the
Kungsholm, this is the first that I have heard it called a Danish
restaurant. It was always famous for its Swedish Smørgasbord and was never
known to be Danish.
There is an exhibit, at the Museum of Science and Industry on the south
side, of some of the puppets and costumes from the operas that were staged
at the Kungsholm. They have most of the collection in storage. I also think
there is some information regarding Chramer and the early days available
there. If not the Chicago Historical Society will have information.
I don't know who told you that Lawry's had closed. I had lunch there last
year and as far as I can tell when I pass the building it is still open. It
is certainly still listed in the new telephone directory.
