Hi Helen,

One of my wife's 7G grandfathers, Lorentz Riggelsen, was a "gårdmand
og kniplingshandler/spitzenhändler" in Løgumkloster. Is
"spitzenhändler" the German for lace merchant? His son, Laurents
(born about 1650) and grandson, Christopher (abt. 1685-1720)
continued the lace business. If anyone has more information on this
family I would be interested, since this part of the Riggelsen line
"vanishes" with Christopher's son, Hinrich, who was an auditør in
Kolding. Did the business continue and, if so, who managed it?

Hans Schack Detlefsen is possibly a distant cousin of my wife (10th
cousin, 7 times removed). The first common ancestors appear to be
Peder Iversen Juel/Jul (abt.1330 - abt.1400) and Mette Segebodsdatter
Skram (abt. 1350 - abt. 1400) who are probably a pair of my wife's
16G grandparents. I would be interested in descendents of Detlef. I
have him marrying twice (Anna Benedicte Boysen and Anna Margrethe
Klindt) with a note that he had 3 children by Anna Benedicte (who
died in 1788) and another 13 children by Anna Margrethe, but I don't
have information about any of the children or further descendents.

Other lace merchants in Tønder amt that I have on file (all distant
cousins or spouses of distant cousins of my wife) are:
August Garmsen (1719-1785)
Hans Andreas Hansen (1819-1881)
Thomas Jacobsen (1808-???)
Peder Jensen Mahler (1782-1834)
Johan Adolph Martfeldt (????-1705)
Hans Andersen Normann (1762-1825)
Peder Christensen Outzen (1687-1742)
Herman Richter (1678-1764) - actually, Herman is a first cousin but 7
times removed. One of his grandmothers is Agathe de Bähr, from a
fairly prominent family in Tønder.
Claus Sørensen (1775-1818)

I'm sure there are others (fathers and/or sons of the above, for
instance), but the occupation "Kniplingshandler" is not specifically
stated for them

Regards,

Mike King.
