Hej alle,

Would it be safe to say that a Skovbetjent was a gamekeeper, or is he best
described as a forest ranger? For gamekeeper, I've found the words skovløber
and jagtbetjent. Betjent combined with other words has various meanings:

betjent (en -e)
(politibetjent) policeman, (police) officer,
(kun engelsk) constable,
T copper, cop,
(i tiltale) constable, officer;
(havebetjent) keeper;
(jagtbetjent) gamekeeper.

The man whose occupation was Skovbetjent in the 1880 census lived in a
skovhus.
