Hi Judy

One reason I think this is the right Nils is because the dates and location
are a near-perfect match.

Nils was illiterate. He signed all of his documents with a X. He would have
said something to an immigration or government official, which got
translated as Farlip. Farlov is very close. Nils was given NZ naturalisation
on 27 Aug 1896, aged 56 years, in Sweden. And a birth date of 9 Jul 1840 is
a good match. I am cautiously optimistic. I'd be less so if there was
another similar match, but there isn't.

But I agree with you that the facts need further verification. On Monday I
will order his death certificate in NZ, and see if it tells us anything new.
Perhaps someone in Sweden could tell me how to go about obtaining or
checking original birth records in these parishes. Not sure this is enough,
as it would only verify the EmiBas transcriptions and not prove him to be my
ancestor.

In the meantime I'll try to find the Northern Queensland connections. See if
anyone in Bowen has knowledge past of the family.

Regards
Kevin
