I have purchased travel insurance through AMA (although in my case it means
Alberta Motor Association) to travel to the USA and Scotland. It was very
reasonable and well worth the peace of mind. I have known people that have
had to spend $100,000+ due to serious injury (spinal cord injury at 70+
years) in another country.

Have any of you ever bought supplemental insurance for a trip abroad that
would cover health costs that your own health insurance wouldn't pay? I'd
like to find something like that now that a couple of friends of mine have
had some rough experiences with accidents in other countries. One flew home
to the US with a broken arm from Italy so she wouldn't have to pay for care
there. Paula
