The Family Record Centre in Myddelton Street, EC1. Their website at
http://www.pro.gov.uk/about/frc/default.htm gives details of opening
times, holdings &c.
It is 10 minutes' walk from Faringdon (Metropolitan and Circle Lines)
and Angel (Northern Line) tube stations, both one stop from King's
Cross/St. Pancras. From Angel you walk downhill!
Don't even *think* about driving.
Be warned, it can be (and almost always is!) *very* busy. If you are
ordering certificates and have a train home to catch, don't leave it
until the last minute -- queues have a habit of suddenly getting very
long just before closing time!
Lots of cafes/pubs in Exmouth Market across the street -- if you are
into Italian food, Gazzano's, the second-best deli in London, is in
Faringdon Road.
The Society of Genealogists is located about 15 minutes' walk away --
but I would *not* try to do both in one day.
If you are planning a visit from Derbyshire consider making a 2-3 day
visit of it, booking yourself into a b&b and maybe taking in a show
in the evening. If you are limited to a one-day visit, Tuesday or
Thursday might be best -- on those days the FRC opens at 10.30 and
stays open until 7.30.
Hope this helps
