Hi:

I am researching the GILL family which settled in Derby city after June 1861
and before 1863.

Father James GILL (born 1822 at Churchstanton, Somerset) and mother Mary
Anne FITZELL (born 1828 at Millstreet, Co Cork) married in Valetta, Malta,
in 1856, where James was posted while serving with the 41st Welch Regiment,
during the Crimean War.

Their first child Mary was born at Shorncliffe Army Camp, Kent circa 1856;
their next two children (James and Henry) were born in Jamaica; their next
two children (Thomas and William) were born in Aldershot, Hamps; and their
last 5 children (John, Edith, Frank, Richard and Thomas) were born at Derby.
The first Thomas died aged 8.

Edith (who married Robert WATTERSON), Richard and second son Thomas are the
only ones who married and lived in Derby. Mary emigrated to the USA, and
the others to Australia.

I would be interested to make contact with any descendants.
