Cavendish is the family name of the Dukes of Devonshire. No doubt this
candidate is one of the family. However the date of the poll, 1734, doesn't
tally with the ones I can find in my old 1921 Concise Dictionary of National
Biography, William Cavendish was the fourth duke and MP for Derbyshire
1741-64. His brother Lord John was MP for lots of places, but none of them in
derbyshire. Lord Frederick was another brother (also fieldmarshal) who was MP
for Derbyshire in 1751 and for Derby 1854-80.
Can't find mention of a Curzon as early as the Poll, nor a Harper.
When I've looked at published poll books before I have sometimes found a
description of the candidates in it - if memory serves at the front? But it
may not always appear.
