Hello,

I am trying to locate my grandfather Joseph Metcalf MARLOW on the1891
Census. According to his birth certificate he was born on the 30 June
1882 to Laura Marlow at 12 Leeds Place, Derby, Derbyshire. There was no
mention of his father's name on the certificate, which is understandable, as
the record of his baptism solemized in the Parish of St. Andrew, Litchurch
on 06 September 1882 states in bold script that he was illegitimate.

We understand that Joseph was put into foster homes as a youth as his
mother, we were told, passed away when he was around the age of four; an
event I have not been able to substantiate through searches of the BMD
indexes. I know that he attended the Bath Street School in Nottingham for
the years ending 31 January 1893, 1894 and 1895 as I have his school
certificate for this period. However, I have been unable to find him
listed on the 1891 Census for Nottingham and therefore wonder if he was
still living 'somewhere' in Derbyshire at that time.

Any help with the above would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Ken Marlow, Ottawa, Canada
