Searching for the ancestry of James BEACH b 20 Dec 1769 Sussex Co., DE or
Somerset, MD, d 16 Nov 1817 Jasper Co., GA. He md Catherine Waller b 22 Nov
1772 prob in Lt.Creek Hundred, Sussex, DE and d 15 Apr 1867 Talbottom,
Talbot, GA. She had a brother the Rev. Newbold Waller b 1767 DE. The family
left Sussex Co., DE after the 1790 census, about 1795 for GA.
There are two Ellis families who moved from DE to Hancock Co, GA. Mine was
Joshua Ellis, who was there in 1789. The other was Levin Ellis, who left a
court record of their harrowing trip to GA. Essentially it said that "with
many other passengers" that the vessel was on a bar and the crew was in
great distress and hove overboard a great part of the load to lighten the
vessel. In about 36 hours after their distress on the vessel aforesaid, the
vessel landed the passengers and load at Norfolk in State of VA. (this is
from The History of Hancock Co, GA by Smith, but have seen it in abstracts
of Hancock Co Court Records, too. The document was dated 1796; likely they
could have arrived in 1794 with your Beach and Waller families. The Maddox
(Mattox) family was also from DE, and they went to Hancock Co. Joshua was
born in Somerset Co, MD, later to be part of Sussex Co, DE. Levin's
descendant I corresponded with seemed adamant that Joshua and Levin were
NOT related, so the Somerset/Sussex clue may or may not help.
Land Rec, Sussex Co, DE - Deed Book N, No. 13; Ellis, Levin p. 39, and
Benjamin p. 70./p. 39 (249) Levin Ellis of Sussex, sold to Thomas Waller of
Md
p. 79. Benjamin Ellis - Thomas Waller.
REF: Letter of May 30, 1995 Charles Waller, Sr. of GA states that he
believes Catherine & Newbold are siblings of Joseph Waller, Jr., and
children of James Waller, Sr. He was the son of William Waller b 1722 &
Rachel Jones.
Can anyone tell me how the BEACH, WALLER, NEWBOLD, ELLIS, families connect?
TIA, Helen @Hewick
