We are looking for information on the family of John A. WHARTON
(var. sp. WHORTON, HORTON), b. 1788, probably either in Laurel, Sussex
County, Delaware or in England;
m. 1820 probably in Laurel, Delaware to Elizabeth FREEMAN, b. ca. 1788,
probably in Laurel, Delaware (daughter of William FREEMAN and Ann
POWELL), d. aft. 1835?, probably in Laurel, Delaware. John died in 1836
(will probated) in Sussex County. "Betsey Wharton" listed as
administrator to John's will.

John and Elizabeth had at least one child, Joseph W. WHARTON, born
1821, probably in Sussex County, m. 1847, probably in Sussex County, to
Lurana BENSON, b. 1829, probably in Laurel (daughter of George BENSON
and Elizabeth _____), d. 1888, Rogers Park, Illinois. Joseph died 1892
in Rogers Park, Illinois.

Joseph and Lurana lived in the vicinity of Laurel, in Sussex County,
Delaware until between 1849 and 1851 when they moved to Illinois, first
to Momenee, then to Rogers Park. Their first two children were born in
Sussex County, Delaware. Their children's names were as follows:

3. Anna (Annie) Frances Wharton (1851-1895), m. James McGRATH

6. William N. Wharton (1855-?), m. 1st Nettie ESTES, m. 2nd Nettie
STEVENS
7. George A. Wharton (1858-?), m. Mary PATTERSON
8. Lizzie K. Wharton (1860-1863)
9. John A. Wharton (1862-?), m. Johanna WALSH
10. Frank Wharton (1865-1865)
11. Francis (Frank) E. Wharton (1867-1932)
12. Frederick A. Wharton (1869-1889)
