Janet,

After reading your message, I went to Ancestry.com Census Images for Sussex
County, DE for 1850 as I do a lot of work in that area. I had no difficulty
in pulling up the images and there was no degradation in quality. I wish I
could be of more help; your problem must be elsewhere.
