I am interested to know how farm leases were arranged and where the
lease would be stored/kept afterwards. If a farmer bought a lease I
assume some cash was transacted- a fine for entry (feet of fines). Was
this a public record or a private one between the landlord and the
tenant, or was it held elsewhere, and is there a central deposit now of
such things?

Has anyone done any work on leases, either as historical or family
research?
